In the midst of the OLG 1.2 controversy, Wizards of the Coast has stealthily announced on their website Dungeons and Dragons next new supplemental release “Keys from the Golden Vault.” Understandably so the release will be a gauging factor on where Wizards of the Coast stands with their fan base and will likely affect future releases.
Keys from the Golden Vault is the next anthology adventure series for Dungeons and Dragons, and will consist of 13 short adventures designed for characters levels 1–11. The idea behind the supplement is that each adventure is a specialized heist scenario. Each scenario is independent of any predetermined campaign setting. The adventures are playable as one-shot stories or linked together to form a full campaign for your players.
The anthology series will include individually designed maps for both the DM and players to plan their heists with. The book is also available in a standard book cover format or as a special edition alternate cover. Keys of the Golden Vault will introduce the “Golden Vault—a mysterious organization for which the player characters can work as heist operatives.”
What is interesting about this supplement is its timing with the movie release of Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. “A charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers undertake an EPIC HEIST to retrieve a lost relic…” reads the movie synopsis. Coincidental? I think not. Well played Hasbro, well played indeed. So the question that remains is how much, if any, overlap will there be for the two properties.
Keys from the Golden Vault comes out on February 21, 2023. And is available for purchase here.
