Critical Hits
When I said earlier that the ENHANCE RPG Travel Case has a space for a little bit of everything I wasn’t kidding. The case has 1 large book storage area, 3 exterior pockets, 1 miniature figure storage area, and strapping to hold your battlemaps. The main pocket has enough room to fit roughly 5-7 hardcover game books. The 3 exterior pockets are all differently sized and allow you to carry an assortment of items. Each side pocket can fit roughly 5-6 cases of Chessex dice boxes or even a large bag of dice with a small die roller tray.
The front pocket has a mesh netting inside it to keep pencils, pens, and markers neatly together as well as enough room for a small notepad or journal. The top opening contains a foam pad to carry 16, 28mm figures in it. And if you don’t need to carry figures with you, the foam tray is completely removable. Allowing for additional storage for any other RPG accessory you may have like a collapsible dice tower or and extra bag of chips to bring to the game night. Also located on the front near the bottom of the case are 2 straps to carry your favorite rollable battlemaps.
Saves
In the main book pocket you will find that the ENHANCE RPG Travel Case has 2 removable Velcro dividers. What I like about this feature is that if you need to carry something other than books simply take out the dividers, place in your tablet, foldable GM Screen or whatever you need to bring along and then resecure the divider into the bag to keep your item safe. Also you could just remove both dividers as well to gain that little extra room for an additional book or item.
The ENHANCE RPG Travel Case is also “made from a rugged and durable polyester fabric reinforced with interior padding to keep the contents protected”. The ENHANCE RPG Travel Case also comes in a slew of color option starting with their basic black fabric for $99. Or you can choose from one of the “Collector’s Edition” cases which is a faux Dragon Scale texture and a variety of color options for $149.
Fails
For what the ENHANCE RPG Travel Case gets right there are a few setbacks I do want to touch on in the next two sections. First is the map straps. The battlemap straps are on the bottom front portion of the bag, allowing for your maps to hang lower then the bag itself. If you are not using a protector tube it’s easy for you to crush or bend your battlemaps when placing the RPG Travel Case down. I personally would recommend using a hard plastic protector tube to avoid this. If the straps were placed higher up on the bag, either under or above the front flap this would easily have been avoidable.
Now as a miniature painter myself I love the idea that they incorporated a foam miniature storage tray in this case. However having precut foam and not using pluck foam is an oversight in my eyes. Pluck foam allows for more versatility. Not every miniature is exactly the same size. Having the holes precut to the same dimensions doesn’t allow for you to pack up larger scale miniatures. Or maybe the PC’s are playing a Halfling, now the miniature will be bouncing around in all the extra space. With the foam tray being removable you can easily purchase and replace it with pluck foam if you so wish.
Critical Misses
Of all the silly things to be a Critical Miss these 2 are head scratchers for me when ENHANCE designed this RPG Travel Case. The carry handle is attached directly to the top of the compartment that holds your miniatures. Putting the entire weight of the bag on both the miniature storage area and the main book storage area zippers. I can only imagine that if you are carrying a full case that it is going to eventually damage the zippers over the course of it’s use. Thankfully there is also a shoulder style messenger bag strap with 2 sturdy D-Ring connectors to use as well.
Secondly the front flap and buckle are purely ornamental. The buckle only closes with a simple button magnet located under the strap on it. This is such a wasted feature. If there were 2 actual buckle straps the carry handle on top would be less worrisome to me.
*UPDATE* – ENHANCE recently released a backpack version of this case which may fix all of the Critical Misses.
